Sweden ought to boycott the World Cup in Germany in protest at the increase in trafficking in women that the event is expected to cause, according to Claes Borgström, the Swedish Equality Ombudsman, who will attend the Nordic Council meeting on human trafficking in Stockholm on Tuesday April 25.

"Trafficking is a form of slavery and defined by the UN as a crime against humanity. The World Cup in Germany will lead to an increase in trafficking. Sweden should withdraw from the competition to show that this is unacceptable," Borgström says.

The meeting in the Swedish parliament on Tuesday is a joint event organised by the Swedish Parliament’s Men’s Network and the Nordic Council. Participants will include the Finnish Speaker, Björn von Sydow, the President of the Nordic Council, Ole Stavad, and Lars U. Granberg who helped set up the Men’s Network in the Swedish Parliament

The meeting will be held in the Nubian Room from 16:45 until 18:15.
